- 1/2 cup shortening

- 1 lb. ground beef

- 2 tsp. Jamaican curry powder
- 1 tsp. thyme
- 1 tsp. salt
- 1/4 tsp. cayenne pepper
- 1/4 cup bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup water
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
Instructions
Preparing the Crust
1. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt.2. Cut the butter and shortening into small pieces and add them to the flour mixture.
3. Use a pastry cutter or your hands to mix the butter and shortening into the flour until the mixture has a crumbly texture.
4. Add the ice water to the mixture, one tablespoon at a time, and mix until the dough forms a ball.
5. Divide the dough into 10-12 equal parts and roll each one into a ball.
6. Flatten each ball with a rolling pin until it is about 1/8 inch thick.
Preparing the Filling
1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees Fahrenheit.2. In a large skillet, heat the vegetable oil over medium-high heat.
3. Add the chopped onion and garlic and cook until the onion is translucent.
4. Add the ground beef to the skillet and cook until it is browned.
5. Add the Jamaican curry powder, thyme, salt, and cayenne pepper to the skillet and stir until the meat is coated in the spices.
6. Add the bread crumbs and water to the skillet and stir until the mixture becomes thick and pasty.
Assembling the Patties
1. Place a spoonful of the filling onto one half of each flattened dough circle.2. Fold the other half of the dough over the filling and press the edges together with a fork to seal.
